Enter on Orchard St.

Russ & Daughters is a week out from opening its hotly-anticipated cafe at 127 Orchard Street. A store worker tells our tipster that May 7 is the target date, “God willing.”

Meanwhile, the trademark red-and-green neon signage on Allen Street was switched on last week, and has been burning bright ever since. Day and night. There is also an inscription spelled out on the tiling instructing customers to “enter at 127 Orchard.”

The sit-down Russ & Daughters Cafe is a first for the centennial appetizing business, a Lower East Side institution since 1914. It sports 65 seats and a menu carrying homestyle fare like soups, smoked fish, egg creams, and the Pastrami Russ (pastrami-cured salmon with sauerkraut and Muenster cheese on a pretzel roll).

Bonus: workers caught organizing some in-store lettering.

‘Good Luck’ Runs out for Orchard Street Massage Parlor, Busted for Prostitution

It appears the Good Luck Spa on Orchard Street ran afoul of the law. Shuttered by court order due to alleged prostitution. (And therefore perpetuating the stereotype of illicit Chinatown massage parlors.) The business, which relocated here from Grand Street four years ago, was ordered closed by court order last Thursday. Stickers on the drawn […]
