Local favorite Cheeky Sandwiches is currently closed. Apparently the Department of Health paid a visit to the cafe yesterday afternoon and wasn’t too happy. If you stop by 35 Orchard Street, an ambiguous announcement apologizes for the inconvenience and promises to “see you soon.”

Even though the DOH database shows no reference to this action, owner Din Yates confirms the inspection transpired and assures us that they will reopen ASAP (possibly one week). In the meantime, Cheeky’s remains out of commission for unspecified “renovations.”

This latest bump in the road arrives eight months after Yates expanded into Greenpoint with a new sandwich spinoff called Bread for the Eater.

Cheeky Sandwiches opened at 35 Orchard in January 2010.
