For the first time since 1958, the M train now rolls into Manhattan proper on the weekends.
As of yesterday, straphangers along the M line in Queens will have much easier access to the city. Trains now run from Middle Village to Essex/Delancey, providing riders with a direct connection to the F. Until this most recent change, riders were required to make two transfers – from the M to the J and the J to the F – in order to reach midtown and other points north.
However, there is no weekend M service north of Essex/Delancey or along the Queens Boulevard line.
The new plans arrive some ten months after the MTA first announced the weekend alleviation.
