Shepard Fairey ‘Owns the Future’ at 161 Bowery with New Mural

Shepard Fairey is pretty busy this week on the Bowery, as previously reported. The Boston-based artist was commissioned by the Little Italy Street Art Project to install a 30 x 40 foot mural on the south-facing exterior of 161 Bowery. Yesterday was his first day out stenciling after a night priming the brickwork.
Thus far we have a tagline that reads, “We own the future,” set against the token red-and-black color scheme. Fairey should complete the new piece by end of week.
Fairey is no stranger to decorating the Bowery. His mural on the graffiti wall four years ago attracted plenty of notoriety after haters threw rocks at it. But another of his murals still survives at the corner of a Rivington.
