Sinking Sidewalk at Orchard and Delancey Was Fully Replaced This Week

No more tripping.
Miracles do happen on the Lower East Side, even if totally minuscule. We’ll take what we can get. Basically, that jury-rigged asphalt plug at the northeast corner of Orchard and Delancey was only temporary.
The city finally addressed community concerns and replaced much of the sidewalk and curb situation. Barricades and signage have been posted all week while work is underway. And the pitfall in question is now a nicely sculpted rampway, as it should be. Concrete pouring is nearly complete.
The sinking sidewalk fell to a depth of five inches before any concrete action was taken. It had been neglected for years, but only recently started to deteriorate significantly.
