New York’s popular bike advocacy group, Time’s Up!, is throwing a big thank you at the volunteer bike mechanics who have, for over a decade, passed along their expertise to over 35,000 participants in the organization’s free weekly classes and workshops. As a result of these tutorials, New Yorkers have become more inclined to pedal, and more empowered to reach for a wrench when something goes awry with that pedal.
You may remember back in 2004, Time’s Up! moved their HQ to 49 East Houston, where they completely gutted the basement and first floor to have sufficient space for hands-on instruction. Fast forward a few and they now boast two locations, on either side of the Williamsburg Bridge.
The free appreciation bash, complete with DJs and live music from Rude Mechanical Orchestra and R-Tronika, is tonight at ABC No Rio, 7pm.
More info on the organization and its offerings (that NYE bike ride is just around the corner!) can be found here.
