‘The Butcher Block’ Cafe Angling to Take 254 Broome Street

Its brief tenure as both gallery showroom and pop-up haven is officially over. The westernmost store of 254 Broome Street – formerly the Mayson Gallery (which moved to 75th Street) – will soon embark on its journey as cafe. Think Home Espresso Bar (RIP) but with booze.
The Butcher Block – not to be confused with the Daughter over on Kenmare – is a two table “bistro” that will serve sandwiches and offer a “daily farmers menu.” The stand-up bar itself will be miniscule with its four stools, and sling only beer and wine.
Because the Butcher Block seeks wine and beer privileges, it’ll likely succeed. After all, the applicants already agreed to the Community Board 3 fast track stipulations. So it won’t be heard at the SLA subcommittee next month.
It’s also worth mentioning that principal applicants Luis and Walter Ulloa have no prior pedigree.
