Rumors of a Darkroom demise at 165 Ludlow tend to bubble up every year or so, but usually don’t pan out. Indeed, people have been calling its death for a decade. The closest it came was when Michael Auerbach and James wanted to bring the Bodega concept here in 2012. That never happened.

Anyway, we have more grist for that mill, so to speak. The Department of Health paid a visit to Darkroom Friday evening and ultimately shut it down. The city notched 45 violation points for various infractions involving food and vermin, even though the establishment has little to do with the former. Some of the bigger concerns include “filth flies,” evidence of live rats, and a it being non-vermin-proof facility that “vermin to the premises and/or allowing vermin to exist.”

No word yet on the reopening…
