Os Gemeos Mural on the Bowery is Back Behind the Plywood

So much for the Os Gemeos mural remaining in public view on the Bowery. Contractors erected another perimeter fence on Monday as construction continues on the adjacent plot. The mural from 2009 had been re-unveiled in mid-September for a “limited time only.” Likely as a reminder that the graffiti wall was still relevant. That timeframe was simply a few weeks.
A rep at Goldman Properties – owner of the graffiti wall since 2004 – tells us that the slab will be “reinforced and then painted by a different artist.” To us plebs, that means a new paneled encasement will eventually be reconstructed onsite. Like the last one. However, everything is delayed by the two-story commercial development next door at 76 East Houston (nee Billy’s Antiques).
So, yeah. No timeframe just yet on the next mural or when the graffiti wall encasement will arrive.
