Dimes is Expanding Operations to Include 49 Canal Street

Dimes opened in 2013 and quickly outgrew its cubbyhole commercial space. On any given day, 143 Division Street is stocked with trendy foodies willing to pay top dollar for product. It’s a total scene, and the space is simply not large enough for the concept. Not to mention the illegal bus stop at its doorstep that continues to affect business.
We’ve been hearing word that Dimes is expanding to 49 Canal Street. Our tipster came across a liquor license application for the new address, which is currently home to Cochinita Dos. That talk is now confirmed. CB3 is out with its December agenda and notes the presence of “Dimes Super enter.” This new space makes sense, as it would provide additional real estate to serve its patrons. They seek full liquor.
We reached out to Dimes owner Sabrina De Sousa to confirm the news. When asked about the expansion she noted that, “No, nothing is officially worked out.” Cochinita Dos did not respond to our request for comment on whether they would be closing.
Of course, the sound byte above is a standard PR denial. We’ll keep you posted.
