100 Montaditos is Closing Down Its Ludlow Street Location After Only 3 Months

Barely three short months into its tenure at 177 Ludlow Street, 100 Montaditos is already dead in the water. Kaput. For added perspective, it took more than a year for the Spanish fast-casual establishment to open in the first place. But no surprise here; the place was perpetually empty from the start.
Convenient that 100 Montaditos closed so soon, though. Apparently the parent company that owns US franchise rights – Mini Hospitality – is retaining the space and has an “upscale concept” waiting in the wings. February is the scheduled launch. Seems likely that the replacement will seek a full liquor license in a location that is already over-saturated (they currently have wine and beer).
It’s unfortunate that the stability of EarthMatters gave way to the financial boon of constant commercial turnover. That is what happened after Mahfar took over.
177 Ludlow is owned by controversial landlord Samy Mahfar, who purchased the property in September 2012.
