Clayton’s Corner: Zito and the Hot Seat of Orchard Street

Earlier this month, Antony Zito wrapped his residency at the Mark Miller Gallery at 92 Orchard Street. He spent the month painting portraits of walk-in customers on found sundries, a throwback to his days on Ludlow Street in the early aughts. The exhibit was dubbed “Displacement – Antony Zito – Then and Now,” and focused on the “dissolution of culture and the displacement of neighborhoods.”
We stopped in on the final night, and happened upon Zito at the easel and Clayton Patterson in the hot seat. A cast of characters streamed in to collect their portraits and chat with the artist.
