Yesterday evening at about 7:10pm, a man was shot to death outside the homeless shelter at 78 Catherine Street. The victim – 31-year-old Rashawn Nicholson – was apparently on his way to deliver Christmas gifts to his four children in the nearby Smith Houses. The unknown assailant reportedly shot Nicholson in the back of the head, according to the Daily News. Cops are still searching for the perp, but a motive is not yet apparent.

Meanwhile, his brother, James Nicholson, told NBC that Rashawn was visiting New York from South Carolina with the express purpose of delivering Christmas presents for his four children.
