The Avalon Chrystie luxury rental development is no longer part of the mothership and has since been rebranded. You’ll recall that Ashkenazy Acquisition Corp. purchased the fourteen-story glass box of rental rip-off apartments for $400 million last year. The property was their first foray into residential real estate.
Now it’s reborn hard as simply, The Chrystie. How homogeneous. Rose Associates was retained to continue its role as leasing and managing agent.
Amenities were apparently renovated, including resident lounge, billiard room, fitness center, and rooftop sundeck with gas grills. Prices haven’t yielded at all under new ownership – studios are $3,000+, 1BRs are $4,100+, and 2BR $6,000+.
AvalonBay Communities constructed the luxury complex at 229 Chrystie Street in 2005. It was designed by Arquitectonica, and occupies 1.33 acres of East Houston real estate. The two sibling properties across the street – Avalon Bowery – followed a couple years later.
