The rash of burglaries in high-end establishments from Little Italy to SoHo, and the East Village, continued late Friday evening with a cash heist at Wine Therapy on Elizabeth Street. Cops say that a duo of knife-wielding thugs entered the wine store at approximately 10pm and forced the clerk to empty the register. They fled the scene with $1,000 in greenbacks; no one was injured in the incident.
This crime is reportedly connected to six similar robberies in the area since January 21. Other retail victims include Bond Street Chocolate, the Goldwater boutique, and Molton Brown.
The 5th Precinct really needs to have a stronger presence. One neighbor tells us that the Community Affairs liaison for the department replied only that the store owners and residents should attend the 5th Precinct’s community meeting. More should be done.
