Today in LES History: Lillian Wald is Born in Cincinnati

1857 – Henry Street Settlement founder Lillian Wald was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her achievements were myriad. Everything from being a Lower East Side “visiting nurse” and inspiring the first public nursing service in the world, to aiding in the creation of the NAACP.
1964 – Lower East Side social service agency Mobilization for Youth organized a “March to Albany” advocating for state minimum wage, greater access to affordable housing and civil rights enforcement.
