Chris Santos Confirmed for New Tao Project at 199 Bowery

More news that further confirms the imminent arrival of the Tao Group at 199 Bowery, a story we broke Monday morning. Eater followed up the report, noting that Chris Santos, executive chef and partner of Stanton Social and Beauty & Essex, is to helm the new “restaurant” concept. Both of these Lower East Side nightlife properties are part of the Tao Group empire.

As previously reported, EMM Group vacated 199 Bowery last week, an address it occupied for under three years. Its tenure was rife with controversy, including public deception, lawsuits, static from the State Liquor Authority, and non-stop quality of life issues for residents and neighbors alike. Not to mention, back room club Finale itself was technically illegal.

So, now the 18,000 square-foot establishment at 199 Bowery is in the hands of Tao and Chris Santos. It’s looking unlikely that there will be any community amenity carved out of this beast. Even though these operators are well ahead of EMM Group, crowding and overall noise are still of concern to neighbors.
