Hear ye, hear ye, history lovers!
It has come to our attention that the New York Public Library is expanding its archival efforts in the digital space. A sneaky and loyal tipster tells us that the library is on the precipice of launching a new website called OLDNYC.ORG. Apparently, the online tool “takes all the digitized images on NYPL and ties them to a geo-location.”
Meaning, the photos will be embedded in some sort of map that identifies the exact location. No more guesswork, research, or painstaking compare/contrast exercises. And while we appreciate the technological time saver, some of us (ahem) like the challenge.
We are told that Old NYC should launch “within the next few weeks.”
