This cleaned-up con artist sure has a workout for you. Coss Marte – a former drug dealer who served four years of a seven-year sentence – returned to his native Lower East Side to open a new workout studio. CossAthletics debuted a couple months ago inside the condoplex at 38 Delancey Street (2nd floor) and immediately attracted attention.

But there’s since been a brand pivot. Known now as ConBody, the bootcamp business is the same – “prison cell workouts” designed for small spaces. The routines are seemingly simple, yet effective. Basics include jumping jacks, squats, and mountain climbers.

Marte realized his ConBody dream thanks to investment from Defy Ventures, a non-profit that helps former inmates, and a cash injection of $100K from Shark Tank’s Barbara Corcoran.

Price is $25 per class or $150 per month.

Something rather unexpected. Not two weeks after Kmart terminated its presence in Astor Place, its replacement is announced. From left field – Wegmans is to open its first Manhattan grocery at this location. The well-regarded, Rochester-based chain already maintains a store in Brooklyn. Curb your enthusiasm, though, as the new Wegmans won’t open at 770 […]

A Grave Marker for a Homeless Man Bludgeoned to Death on the Bowery

It’s been nearly two years since the city was rocked by the fatal bludgeoning of homeless men on the Bowery while they slept. Of the five beaten by 24-year-old attacker Randy Santos, four ultimately died – Chuen Kwok, Anthony Manson, Florencio Moran, and Nazario Vasquez-Villegas. Chuen Kwok was a vulnerable senior who, after the passing […]
