Call Axl Rose; the Spaghetti Incident is just days from happening at 231 Eldridge Street. We are told that the newcomer – in the works since November – opens to the public this weekend after a short period of friends-and-family gatherings.

Emanuele Attala, the chef-owner of Malatesta and its sister restaurant Malaparte, just joined forces with Ettore Pardossi and Giovanni Gentile to usher in the Spaghetti Incident. As the name suggests, it’s a ten-table Italian restaurant. As for beverages, it’s only wine and beer. For now.

Before Spaghetti Incident entered the picture, Family Recipe ruled the roost. The predecessor had been a critics’ darling ever since it bowed at 231 Eldridge Street back in 2011. Unfortunately, this love didn’t convert well enough into coinage, and former proprietor Akiko Turnauer pulled the plug on the establishment last year.

Issey Miyake Boutique will Eventually Open on Kenmare Street [Updated]

That so-called jewel box development at Elizabeth and Kenmare Streets is a sore site for these eyes. With the mess of construction materials long-gone, the hulking concrete mass feels somewhat like a prison complex. And into this condo compound, a trendy international retailer on the ground level. Eye-grabbing teaser signage for Issey Miyake has been […]
