A subterranean bowling alley is coming to Site 1 of Essex Crossing. That much has been known for years. But the identity of the establishment is not Bowlmor, as previously believed. Instead, it’s a “boutique” affair by retro-style bowling brand Splitsville Luxury Lanes.
According to the scoop in the Daily News, Splitsville will occupy 17,000 square-feet of space beneath the fourteen-story condo tower set to rise on the former Municipal lot. It’ll sport 10 lanes, live music and traditional bar junk such as pizza and burgers, as well as higher-end choices. The ten-year deal was reportedly just signed. Expect an opening sometime in 2017.
Upon its debut, Splitsville will be the only bowling alley below 19th Street. The Lower East Side is its seventh location, but only second above the Mason Dixon Line.
