Illegal Chinatown Bus ‘Great Wall’ Departs Division Street

Great Wall Bus Company, a thorn in the side of many in the community, is no longer running its illegal Chinatown bus business at 143 Division Street. Announcement printouts taped to the storefront indicate that their lease was not renewed, and that they’ve since moved to 94 Madison Street.
Great Wall was often cited as one of the more egregious operators in the area. The operation was clearly illegal, and actually served as pickup/dropoff for three different companies at this address. Queueing customers and idling buses were of paramount concern, especially to the nearby local businesses. Dimes and Daredevil Tattoo both voiced frustration over the lack of oversight and enforcement (Dimes since opened a larger location around the corner on Canal Street).
What’s seemingly apparent is that the tireless efforts of the fed-up commercial neighbors, as well as the SPaCE Block Association likely contributed to the outcome.
So, while Great Wall did in fact move to 94 Madison, it remains an un-permitted bus company.
