NYC 311 Can Finally Accept Complaints and Grievances About Chinatown Bus Violators

It’s the news that many Lower East Side residents have been waiting for. The city’s 311 hotline system can finally capture complaints against intercity buses. Which means the onslaught against the Chinatown industry is probably gonna go bonkers.
Until now, 311 operators on the other end couldn’t properly process calls and online submissions regarding egregious bus idling, lack of permits, illegal parking, noise, et al. Meaning, myriad grievances just went into a black hole and were rarely addressed, mainly due to unfamiliarity and lack of clear-cut protocol. But now – as of June 22 – such complaints are routed to both the Department of Transportation and the NYPD.
It’s certainly considered a win for residents, yet seems like the effort remains futile. Bad actors and actions will continue. The onus is still on locals to police these bus businesses.
