It was barely a comeback at all; a brief rebound, if anything. And now, the two-year-old Civilianaire at 53 East Houston Street is officially dead in the water. For real this time.

In its place, something that looks exactly the same – 2nd Time Around. Signage arrived last week, as did a platoon of trendy mannequins. This fashion newcomer is actually a nationally-recognized consignment shop with 35 years experience and presence in over twelve states.

This store at the corner of Mott and East Houston is the tenth Manhattan location for the brand.

Meanwhile, there had been a temporary sendoff note on the Mott Street facade – “Best of luck to you” – but since erased. Some locals still seem pissed about the loss of a vital neighborhood bodega. You remember – the La Cocina Deli that operated here for many years. Shortly after the space was boarded up, angry patrons similarly scrawled their thoughts on the plywood for months.

And now we likely inherit an endless cycle of boutiques…
