Optimum Appliances relocated down the block a few years ago, leaving valuable retail real estate for the taking. Only, it didn’t actually happen that quickly. Quite the opposite; the former electronics store at 27 Canal Street remained vacant until this summer.

As we first reported last month, upscale antique purveyor, The Hunt, is busy building out the space for its new headquarters. Operations are moving southward after a three-year partnership with the Great Frog on Orchard Street. Their old shoes, so to speak, will be filled by punk rock boutique, The Cast.

Co-owner Steven Ditchkus confirms that The Hunt will reopen at 27 Canal Street sometime next week. A bit behind schedule. We are told that the antiquated Optimum Appliances signage above the entrance will remain.
