Time to wheel out the obligatory summertime post about the smelliest block in Manhattan – the stretch of Broome Street between Allen and Eldridge. The terrible aroma perpetually hangs here, perking the senses with that pungent mustiness of chicken guts, wet dog, and raw fish. Regardless of season. Winter, spring, summer, or fall.
For a minute there, some neighbors truly believed that the street the scent was eradicated thanks to some sewer cleanup a few years ago. That was just wishful thinking, though. It’s here to stay, folks, and the block has retained its crown.
