It would appear that Gotham Court is cleaning house. Some five months after Hubb NYC purchased the frat complex for $29.1 million, one of its more reliable retail tenants vanished. The no-frills Essex Dollar Plus officially called it quits last week after four years in business.

The store space at 149 Essex has since been stripped and papered. Awaiting new blood. What neighbors probably don’t want to see, however, is a new bar sprouting here. It’s a definite possibility. Sinvin is repping the commercial property.

Essex Dollar opened in June 2011, pushing White Furniture to consolidate its footprint on Avenue A.
