The Allen Street Deli Folds After 5 Years in Business

It’s curtains for the Allen Street Deli, a reliable neighborhood standby. The five-year-old bodega at 203 Allen quietly closed over the weekend, having cleared out its proverbial locker. A message painted on the window announced the shutter.

The first cracks in the business seemingly appeared last January. At the time, word on the street was the their landlord wanted to boot the mixed bag of commercial tenants in order to attract a “big chain” to the block. That proposal, if true, would spell the end for the former Los Perros Locos (currently for rent), the eyebrow threading salon, and the now-shuttered deli. Looks like it might actually happen, though; two out of three ain’t bad are down for the count.

The Allen Street Deli debuted in September 2010, which replaced the old Lucky Stop Deli. It’s worth mentioning that a bodega of some sort has occupied 203 Allen for years.
