VolaVida Gallery was down but apparently not out. The nascent street art showroom relocated to our neck of the woods from Alphabet City after some internal drama. Specifically, to the Pink Building at the corner of Grand and Orchard Streets.
We are told that VolaVida just joined forces with the Avant Garde vape gallery/lounge, to share the year-old store footprint. “They’ve been hanging art the whole time but needed someone with a better access to artists,” VolaVida tells us. “That’s where VolaVida comes in.” In fact, the relationship with Avant Garde actually began over the summer, so the partnership is more of the same.
Artists associated with the gallery include some familiar local names like Hektad and Joseph Meloy (i.e. Urban Expressionism). Their self-stated goal Is to “help artists share their craft without relinquishing their integrity.”
Debut show at 319 Grand Street is “Colossal,” which officially bowed two weeks ago.
