The David Bowie Shrine on Lafayette Street is Gone

The shiva is over at 285 Lafayette Street. No more David Bowie memorial shrine outside his residence. The police barricades were deposed days before the storm, the flowers and memories cleared.
In its stread, however, a new makeshift memorial just materialized outside the fire-felled Alternative Apparel store. Various items were placed in the frozen planters above the “Let’s Dance” graffiti.
But there are still plenty of memorials and tributes to David Bowie that seem to pop up every day. The most visible of which being the vandalized Bowery street sign at East Houston, courtesy of the Little Italy Street Art Project. Members from the collective spray-painted “David” onto the green canvas to reveal the pun “David Bowery.”
