There is a new Cloverfield movie coming out next month – 10 Cloverfield Lane.

With hype intensifying over this next in the franchise, why not reminisce about filming of the original? If you recall, there were several scenes captured on the streets of the Lower East Side. But perhaps the most intrusive was the destruction sequence on Orchard Street.

The unseen monster wreaks havoc near the former one-story incarnation of the Slipper Room at 87 Stanton Street. That meant plenty of debris and mangled cars imported to tell that storyline. The Sound Library was in the picture back then, and the Orchard Street Hotel was still in diapers.

We forgot our camera at home those summer days – end of of July 2007 – and didn’t yet have a smartphone. (The iPhone was released the month before.)

Flickr user BigSpider has a stellar collection of images from filming.
