In the inimitable words of David Byrne, “same as it ever was.”

Prosperity Dumpling departed 46 Eldridge Street last year in a storm of controversy (nay, infamy) after its illicit back-alley kitchen and roach infestation hit the headlines. The outcry and resultant Health Department inspections forced the once-beloved dim sum joint to the sidelines. However, as we speak, the cheap eats destination is now preparing a comeback at 265 Broome Street, as previously reported. No timetable for opening.

Its former HQ sat empty in the interim. Until last week, in fact, when the installation of a new store canopy signaled the replacement. Eight months later, the likeminded East Dumpling is taking over. Not much additional info is available yet, but expect more of the same. Except the alley food prep, of course.

The changeover had been gradual since Metro took over, to say the least. First with repositioning (and upscaling) […]

With Rosario’s Pizza now a proverbial footnote, its successor is now in play. Zazzy’s Pizza is now serving on Orchard Street, albeit in soft launch mode for the last couple weeks. For starters, the health-conscious pizzeria (there are plant-based vegan options) is open for dinner service, 5pm-10pm daily. The takeout window at 173 Orchard is […]

Of Arts and Oats: OATLY Over Little Italy

The long-shuttered Miss Paradis restaurant has been an eyesore of Little Italy since before the pandemic. This ill-fated eatery, which rose on a corner parking lot across from Old St. Patrick’s, closed its doors in 2018 after only a year in business (and four prior years of planning). Its gleaming rooftop apple did not live […]

In which Mediterranean cuisine joins forces with natural wine on Broome Street. As of today, Sami & Susu – the Williamsburg Mediterranean restaurant that launched earlier this year – is setting up shop inside popular twelve-year-old wine bar, Ten Bells (247 Broome Street). The focus is a spin on traditional and family-inspired fare, with the […]
