With the drama surrounding the sorry state of Sara D. Roosevelt’s pitch and its subsequent eleventh hour replacement all comfortably in the past, the Steve Nash Foundation is ready to kick off its 9th annual “Showdown NYC.” And this year, Nash is breaking out the big guns. Or feet.
According to the LA Galaxy’s website, “Landon Donovan is scheduled to appear in former Los Angeles Lakers guard Steve Nash’s annual exhibition soccer match, the ‘Showdown in Chinatown’ in New York City this summer.”
That’s right; the United States Men’s National Team’s greatest of all time is headed to the Lower East Side for a little street footie.
The Steve Nash Foundation’s Twitter account duly confirms this.
As in years prior, a delegation of NBA, MLS, and international soccer stars, as well as notable personalities, will gather at Nike field on Stanton Street to support the charity which works “to increase access to critical needs resources for children in underserved communities and populations.”
Showdown is Wednesday, June 22. Gates open at 4pm, kickoff at 6:30pm. Seating is limited.
