The TOTAH Gallery – a newcomer on the Lower East Side arts scene – is making a big splash with its latest exhibition. Ownership tapped the creative muscle of iconic street artist Kenny Scharf for a one-day-only party that kicks off tonight.
Scharf spent the last couple days painting murals on the twin security gates of 183 Stanton Street, just west of Attorney. The artwork calls on those familiar smiley characters that have appeared around the Lower East Side since the 1980s. All for an event called “Paint-B-Q,” which starts at 6:30pm. Balvanera, the two-year-old Argentinian restaurant across the street, is catering the party.
