MTV hit the street earlier this week to help promote its annual summer tentpole. The channel enlisted several artists to help promote this year’s Video Music Awards, returning to New York City for the first time in three years.
Participants in the commissioned project – Hektad, Queen Andrea, giz, and Damien Mitchell – painted several sections of wall space at the First Street Green outdoor exhibition space. Each artist painted a different mural corresponding to award categories and the respective nominees in the show.
First Street Green was founded in 2008 when neighbors converted the derelict building lot at 33 East 1st Street into an open-air gallery. It was later incorporated into First Park down the block.
