New Traffic Signal and Crossing Unveiled in Dangerous Intersection of South Street at Clinton

Another treacherous waterfront intersection is soon to be safer. Last week, the Department of Transportation finally installed a traffic signal and protected crosswalk where South Street meets Clinton Street.
The light is not yet active, though. A garbage bag covers the unit for the time being.
The new traffic configuration is part of the overall South Street Greenway project launched in fall 2015, and arguably its most significant enhancement.
While the two-way bike lane on Clinton Street made headlines last September (the 1,000th mile), the other components of the Greenway plan lagged. Implementation of these improvements – medians along South Street, designated lanes for pedestrians and cyclists, and the traffic signal – began four months ago, but was a slow start.
