This goose is cooked.
Word on the block is that Pies ‘n’ Thighs is set to close its Lower East Side outpost later this week. A tipster tells us that staff was informed of the closure on Monday evening. The last day in business for the homestyle restaurant at 43 Canal Street is next Sunday.
This location couldn’t quite capture the same magic as the OG, which is allegedly why it’s closing. In other words, not enough business. (Plus, the place coulda used some better ventilation.)
News first broke about the arrival of Brooklyn-based Pies ‘n’ Thighs back in March 2014. The bid for this particular location – previously a Chinese photocopy center – followed quickly after the Egg Shop backed out (they subsequently settled across town on Elizabeth Street). It didn’t actually open until the following January.
Not quite two years in the neighborhood for this bird.
