Rothstein’s Hardware is making a triumphant return to Clinton Street after two years exiled around the corner on Ridge Street.
Business was rudely interrupted in the spring of 2014, when its building owner (Icon Realty) sold to DHA Capital for $28.95 million. That transaction resulted in the loss of several establishments – including WD-50 and Community 54 – and construction of the seven-story luxury condo development currently casting a shadow on the block.
The mom-and-pop hardware shop had been at this unique address for three decades, but was forced to 106 Ridge Street. A banner above the entryway now alerts customers to its closure and imminent move to 98 Clinton Street, formerly home to the Favour Department Store (aka dollar store).
