Prosperity Dumpling Replacement ‘East Dumpling’ is Finally Open on Eldridge Street
The former home of Prosperity Dumpling is finally delivering on its promise. Ever since April 2016, 46 Eldridge Street has been teasing the arrival of East Dumpling with an eye-catching green canopy. All revved up with no place to go, as it were.
Now, nearly a year later, the dumpling dispensary is open for business. Similarly cramped, the eatery continues the tradition of a meal for under three dollars. The current deal, among others, is three dumplings for a dollar.
Prosperity Dumpling, long a stalwart of cheap Chinatown eats, crashed and burned in August 2015 when news of its back alley kitchen and roach infestation quickly spread. Immediate Department of Health Inspections resulted in mandatory closure, and the establishment never recovered. There were also follow-up plans to open on Broome Street, but that, too, ultimately fizzled. Then its Clinton Street Location, C&C Prosperity Dumpling likewise closed. Last we heard, Prosperity is working on a new Bensonhurst outpost.
