‘Bing Kitchen’ Closes Orchard Street Snack Shop with Plans of Relocating

The Lower East Side apparently isn’t ready for Chinese staple Jianbing. Its singular outpost, Bing Kitchen, will reportedly relocate after less than a year serving on Orchard Street. A handwritten “store closing” sign is taped to the front door.

Co-owner Aaron Gallentine confirmed the move in an email, noting that Bing Kitchen outgrew the space. The storefront was too small for its production needs. A larger location will open later this year, potentially in the East Village.

Aaron Gallentine and chef-artist Clio Goodman (Puddin’ NYC) opened Bing Kitchen at 71 Orchard Street in June of last year. It was a shoulder-to-shoulder type of place that boasted four stools at a narrow counter, and a tiny kitchen in the back. But the pock-marked road wasn’t easy for this small business. Two months after its debut (August 2016), Bing Kitchen was sidelined after sustaining water damage due to “flooding from the top floors.” And now moving to a new spot…

71 Orchard Street previously housed the rocker leather shop, The Cast, which currently piggybacks space at the Great Frog jewelry shop across the way.
