Boss Tweed’s Saloon on Essex Street is a Goner
For a bar, being closed on a weekend is pretty telling. Or on any peak night, for that matter. It’s a signal that business could be on the rocks. Such is the case for Boss Tweed’s, which hasn’t been open lately.
Gates have been shuttered for consecutive days the past week, including through the weekend. Ghost town.
So far, we’ve been unable to connect with anyone in the Boss Tweed’s camp, but the situation seems fairly obvious.
Boss Tweed’s, named for the notorious Tammany Hall boss – is one of the older guard around here, having first opened at 115 Essex Street in late 2004. At one point, the nightspot was known as a local cop hangout. And also for having bubble hockey. No longer.
