Bottle Collecting Turned Violent on the Lower East Side Last Night [VIDEO]
Trash is treasure, and in the underworld of bottle collection, competition is cutthroat. Case in point, the scene outside Seward Park High School on Essex Street last night.
This is a known grazing spot for the bottle collectors of the Lower East Side. The so-called “Bottle Queens.” Indeed, the garbage bags deposited here burst with bounty. Around the corner on Broome Street is also where trucks pick up the scavenged empties, presumably for a price.
Three elderly Chinese women were spotted arguing over a bag, and it became violent. Shoving, yelling, and punching for about five minutes.
This isn’t the first time we’ve encountered such an eruption of fisticuffs. It’s more common than you’d like to think…
