Homeless Man with Lengthy Rap Sheet Arrested for Lower East Side Rape Attempt
The creep behind the attempted rape on the Lower East Side earlier this month has been arrested, police said.
The alleged perpetrator is 41-year-old Robert Adames, a homeless man with a lengthy rap sheet. He is accused of following a woman to her home at 139 Norfolk Street just past midnight on midnight March 3, shadowing her up the stairs, shoving her through the door, and groping her; he then tried to remove her clothes but met resistance, so fled the scene.
Adames faces charges including attempted rape, sex-motivated burglary, forcible touching, sex abuse and criminal trespass. This wouldn’t be his first crime, either.
Police sources told NBC New York that Adames has been arrested 40 times since 1998, mostly for robbery and drug possession. He is on parole until 2020 after serving two years in prison for a 2012 perjury conviction.
