Exhuming James Bond’s Runaway Car Scene on the FDR [VIDEO]
Yesterday, actor Sir Roger Moore passed away at the age of 89. He portrayed a more humorous James Bond in a record-setting seven franchise films. He died in Switzerland after “a short but brave battle with cancer,” according to tweets from the family.
So, we thought it appropriate to revisit the scene from Live and Let Die in which Bond’s driver is killed while cruising the FDR on the Lower East Side. They were on the way from JFK Airport (Pan Am terminal), when he assured his spy cohorts in Manhattan that ETA would be a half-hour “traffic permitting.” (Live and Let Die was Moore’s first Bond flick.)
The scene is a great visual document of the Lower East Side waterfront, circa 1973. Without the monstrous Extell tower. Also take note of the continuity errors in the background.
Moore’s Bond movies:
Live and Let Die (1973)
The Man with the Golden Gun (1974)
The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)
Moonraker (1979)
For Your Eyes Only (1981)
Octopussy (1983)
A View to a Kill (1985)
With the heaviest of hearts, we must share the awful news that our father, Sir Roger Moore, passed away today. We are all devastated. pic.twitter.com/6dhiA6dnVg
