Lindsey Thornburg is Moving Her Orchard Street Boutique to Chelsea

The two-year tenure of Lindsey Thornburg at 21 Orchard Street is coming to an end. The eponymous store owner is moving to an “appointment only atelier in Chelsea” in the coming days.

When asked why she was relocating, Thornburg mentioned how she wanted “to be closer to the garment district.” Makes sense.

And thus concludes her tumultuous trek through the Lower East Side over the last half-dozen years. Forever chasing cheaper rents. The boutique purveyor, a resident of Ludlow Street, debuted her first area shop back in November 2011. But when Samy Mahfar took the reins at 143 Ludlow Street the following summer ($5.2 million purchase), it wasn’t long before Thornburg was forced to relocate. First to 151 Ludlow, then around the corner to 114 Stanton. Another rent hike forced her down to 21 Orchard two years ago.
