New 50-Foot ‘STIK’ Figure Appears on Allen Street
With the COST and Dain collaboration no longer in play at Allen and Delancey Streets, another revered street artist is at bat. UK-based STIK has been on the block since Tuesday to impart a token stick figure to the west-facing exterior of 55 Delancey.
The mural was apparently commissioned by Fat Free Art Gallery (not The New Allen), the street art showroom that opened in the building last November. It’s timed to coincide with an upcoming exhibition there.
Below is Stik’s autobiography as listed on the website:
Stik started painting unofficial, socially conscious murals in his hometown of Hackney, East London in 2001. His simple stick figures wordlessly tell the story of his community and he frequently collaborates with hospitals, charities and homeless organisations. Working from his East London studio, these projects are largely self-funded and he now creates monumental artworks with communities across the world.
