‘Allegro Coffee’ Opens Inside the Bowery Whole Foods Today
It’s opening day.
Today is the grand opening of the Allegro Coffee outpost inside the Whole Foods Bowery. The sign on the front door of the old beer depot signals as much.
Losing the beer room three months ago in favor of coffee is part of an overarching effort to revamp the struggling Whole Foods, now in the hands of Amazon after its $13.7 billion purchase last month. This ten-year-old grocery, in particular, is certainly going through all sorts of changes of late. You’ll recall that their new, front-of-house bakery debuted at the entrance a couple weeks ago, and the prepared food section was also remodeled.
Allegro Coffee is actually a subsidiary of Whole Foods; the Bowery spot is the eighth for the sub-label.
