Last night, a “massive explosion” was reportedly felt in Two Bridges.
We’re told that a transformer at the Con Edison substation on Cherry Street (corner of Rutgers) exploded shortly before 9pm. Firefighters responded, and remained at the scene for a couple hours before dispersing. And from what we understand, no power outages were reported in the vicinity.
The utility company, meanwhile, is investigating the incident and has already begun the necessary repairs.
At least one resident of 82 Rutgers Slip (aka Two Bridges Tower) felt the building shake from the shockwave. “A loud explosion really shook the building,” one reader told us. “My initial thought was that a crane fell from Extell or worse.”
