Here’s a Map Showing How the Lower East Side Voted in the City Council Election Last Week
With more than a week having elapsed since the general election, the above map plots the results of the City Council District 1 race. It was a heated campaign that saw incumbent Margaret Chin fighting for her life against the upstart Christopher Marte.
Chin defeated Marte by nearly 3,000 votes to secure a third term in office (11,468 to 8,502). Let’s see if she makes good on her election promises to fight the towers on the Two Bridges waterfront. That neighborhood, for the most part, voted against her.
Meanwhile, the maps help further the narrative here. The data is broken down by election districts, and shows how Chin had a vice grip on Chinatown votes, plus large swaths of the Lower East Side.
