‘Ninja Grill’ Foists Fast Food Hibachi onto Essex Street

Ninja Grill snuck up on the Lower East Side two months ago.

Video game-style signage first announced its arrival at 103 Essex Street back in October, promising a hokie “hibachi express” concept. The day has come.

Ninja Grill opened a couple weeks ago – across from the Essex Street Market– and is exactly what you might expect. There is a large dining room peppered with more than a dozen tables for patrons, including booth seating. Seems poised to collect the drunken Hell Square horde for late-night eats.

It’s the second business inside a year, behind Prestige Cafe, to attempt commerce at this cursed spot. (It sat empty for years after Le Lupanar closed in 2011.)
